Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) inspection of the Northern Collector Tunnel and Karimenu II Dam Projects

The Public Service Commission (PSC) and Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) inspected the construction of the Northern Collector Tunnel Project On 10th June 2022. The project which is being implemented by Athi Water Works Development Agency will supply an additional 140 Million litres of water to Nairobi and it’s environs benefitting more than 1.2 million residents. The overall project progress is at 95% completion and testing is ongoing.

The team also visited Kigoro Water Treatment Plant which is already complete. The project involves construction of a high level ultra-modern water treatment plant in Kigoro to treat 140 million litres of water per day from Thika Dam through the NCT1 Tunnel, for delivery to Nairobi.

The entourage then proceeded to inspect construction of Karimenu II Dam in Kiambu County. The project is 90% complete and the dam water level is at 50%. The project will supply an additional 70 million litres of water to the residents of Ruiru, Juja, Gatundu and Nairobi.

Speaking during the inspection visit, the PDU Secretary Mr. Andrew Wakahiu said that the dam is a Vision 2030 project and an enabler of the Governmentโ€™s Big Four Agenda. He also noted that the project had been completed ahead of time and confirmed that it is ready to be launched.

The PSC Commissioner Mr. Andrew Muriuki said that they are happy to be on the ground to appreciate the work civil servants are doing. The commissioner said that they are impressed with the delivery of projects by the Government.

Present during the inspection was the PDU Secretary Mr. Andrew Wakahiu, MBS, PSC Commissioners Mr. Andrew Muriuki, MBS, Dr. Nancy Mwiandi, MBS, Central Regional Commissioner Ms. Esther Maina, AWWDA CEO Eng. Michael Thuita among other senior officials.
