INSPECTION OF WATER AND SEWER PROJECTS IN LIMURU

Inspection of Water and Sewer Projects in Limuru

30th September, 2020 – The Principal Secretary Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Joseph Wairagu Irungu inspected Water and Sanitation Projects in Limuru. The Government of Kenya (GoK) through Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) is currently implementing a raft of Water and Sanitation Projects in Limuru to benefit over 2 million residents in the area.

He inspected Limuru Water and Sewerage Project under the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Program. The project is located within Limuru area serving residents of Industrial Area, Limuru Town, Karanjee, Misri, Kwa Mbira and Kamangu.

The objective of the project is to improve access, quality, availability and sustainability of water supply services in above mentioned areas. The project is intended to serve more than 50,000 people upon completion.

The scope of the works for the project entails; construction of 40km sewers and sanitation blocks to serve limuru residents, expansion and rehabilitation of Limuru Waste Water Treatment Plant, drilling and equipping of 6 no. boreholes and elevated steel tanks and laying of 25km of water distribution pipelines.

The works commenced on 10th December 2018 and is scheduled to be completed by 21st September 2021. So far the contractor has been able to lay 18 km of sewer networks and 6km of water distribution pipes with the overall completion status at 35%.

The PS also inspected Ngecha Community Water Supply Project which is to benefit over 5,000 people in Ngecha area. The scope of works includes drilling and equipping of a borehole at Ngecha yielding 100,000 litres per day, construction of 24m3 elevated water storage tank, water kiosk and laying of 2km pipeline network. The project is complete and awaiting power supply connections.
