Athi Water Works Development Agency is one of the Nine (9) Water Works Development Agencies Mandated with Devlopment and Management of bulk water infrastructure for Nairobi, Kiambu, and Murangá counties. Serving over 8Million residents
The Agency is mandated to undertake the following services in line with the Water Act 2016
Development, Maintenance and Management of National Public Waterworks
Operate the waterworks and provide water services as a WSP until asset handover
Provide reserve capacity for purposes of providing water services
provide technical services and capacity building to County Governments and water services providers in our area of jurisdiction
provide to the Cabinet Secretary technical support in the discharge of his or her functions

Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) is one of the Nine (9) Water Works Development Agencies (WWDA) established under the Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation. It was established under the Water Act 2016 vide Legal Notice No. 28 of 26th April 2019.
The Agency is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of water and sewerage infrastructure in the counties of Nairobi, Kiambu and Muranga Counties covering 5,800.4Km2 with a total population of 9,320,287 people. Currently, the Agency has a bulk water production capacity of 664,337m3/day and a wastewater treatment capacity of 210,500 m3/day.
