Major Milestone achieved in Construction of Karimenu II Dam Water Supply Project
Wednesday 10th March 2021, Kiambu County.

The Principal Secretary Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Joseph Wairagu today inspected the commencement of the dam filling works which is the 6th major project milestone in construction of Karimenu II Dam Water Supply in Gatundu.

The PS inspected the ongoing construction of Karimenu II Dam Water Supply project which entails; a dam, water treatment plant of capacity 70 Million litres per day, 67 km of raw and treated water transmission pipeline and two concrete water storage tanks in Ruiru and Juja each with a capacity of 23.5 Million litres and 3 million litres respectively.

Currently, the project has achieved six key milestones including groundbreaking, tunnel breakthrough, completion of tunnel secondary lining, river diversion and substantial completion of dam foundation treatment works. Today marked commencement of dam filling works which is another key milestone for the project which is now 35% complete.

Speaking during the event the PS said that the project is on course to be completed by April 2022.

The PS was accompanied by Water Secretary Eng. S.A.O Alima, AWWDA CEO Eng. Michael M. Thuita, AWWDA Manager Water Works Eng. Bonnie Nyandwaro, Gatundu Water MD Patrick Mwangi, local administration among others.
