Cabinet Secretaries drawn from NDICCC inspect Kajiado Water and Sanitation Projects

National Development Implementation Communication Cabinet Committee inspected Water and Sanitation Projects in Kajiado County.

Today members drawn from the National Development Implementation Communication Cabinet Committee inspected Oloitokitok Water and Sewerage Project and Rehabilitation and Augmentation of Amboseli Water Supply.

Government of Kenya in partnership with The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) funding through Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) is constructing Oloitokitok Water and sewerage project, Amboseli Water Supply Project and Kajiado Rural Water Supply Project in Kajiado County.

The team inspected Oloitokitok Water and Sewerage Project which involves rehabilitation of the Nol-Turesh springs, laying of 16 km water pipeline to supply 5 million litres of per day, installation of 1.5-Megawatt solar system power supply for two pumping station, laying of 15km lateral and trunk sewers, construction of a waste water treatment treating 3 Million litres per day. Additionally, the project will see supply and installation of 6,000 consumer water meters for the residents.

The project commenced on 8th April 2017 and is expected to be complete by 28th February 2021. Already, the project is 80% complete with the laying of water and sewer networks complete pending completion of waste water treatment plant and operationalization of 4,720 solar panels at Nol-Turesh Springs and intermediate pumping stations. Once complete the project will benefit more than 60,000 residents of Kajiado.

Another project assessed was Rehabilitation and Augmentation of Amboseli Water Supply Project which involves rehabilitation of Serena intake weir, installation of two new water pumps, 180 solar panels, laying of 60 kms of water pipelines and construction of two storage tanks at Risa and Mashenani each storing 15,000 and 10,000 litres respectively. The project is complete and operational with residents of Risa, Booster, Amboseli, Mashenani, Lotepesi and Ichakita set to benefit with water supply of 50,000 litres per day.

Joseph Kamau, Ag. CEO Tanathi WWDA Frederick Mwamati, representatives of the PDU among others.
