‌Free Water interventions for Informal Settlements

‌Today His Excellency The President of the Republic of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta, C.G.H inspected free water interventions for informal settlements in Mathare and Kibera. The water interventions are part of his directive to provide free water for informal settlements during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya.

The Agency has already constructed 93 steel elevated tanks and 63 boreholes across Nairobi in conjunction with Nairobi Metropolitan Services. Residents from Mukuru, Korogocho, Mathare, Kibera, Southlands Kijiji, Kahawa Soweto, Kayole, Waithaka, Kabiria, Kawangware, Gatina, Gatoto, Baba Dogo, Dandora and Lucky Summer informal settlements can now access free water.The water interventions are set to benefit more than 600,000 people and supply 16 million litres per day.

‌He was accompanied by Nairobi County Senator Hon. Johnston Sakaja, NMS Maj. General Mohammed Badi, PS Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Joseph Irungu Wairagu, C.E.O AWWDA Eng. Michael M. Thuita and other senior officials.
